Should Abortion Be Legal - 2257 Words

Abortion Research Paper Introduction In the world today, a clear answer whether abortion is allowed has not been given. Texas, however, has reduced the ability to have an abortion, as well as many other states in the United States. Abortion is currently acceptable, in Texas, until pregnancy has reached 20 weeks; this is when the fetus begins to gain feeling, starts to gain physical characteristics, as well as can be identified as a boy or girl. This is well into the pregnancy and only a few states have the 20-week law in place. Abortion is a huge debate that needs to be settled, and I strongly believe every state needs to contain the 20-week law. Researchers have discovered that the babies react and show a sense of pain when an abortion occurs any later. A doctor from King’s College in London, Dr. C H Rodeck, mentioned, â€Å"the fetus responds to some forms of sensory stimulation, particularly noise, changes in position, and pain† (Richards, 1985). Although the fetuses’ reactions can be minimal, it is the concept that he or she can feel some kind of pain. Pain sensors are not fully developed in all parts of the body at twenty weeks, but this is when some begin to form. Abortion has different methods, and only the method that has direct contact with the fetus is what causes pain. However, because the other methods do not cause pain is not a reason to kill the fetus any later. In Texas, a recent bill that passed is known as H.B. 2. In this bill, it is made clear that no abortions are allowed after twenty weeks because of the Preborn Pain Act. Which in this Act the State Affairs Committee stated, â€Å"all the neuroreceptors for pain are in place and functioning,† at about twenty weeks. The state of Texas believed that this Act and Bill should be placed into effect because not caring about an unborn child’s life is a wrongdoing. Some states recently have passed acts under
